An expansive English sampler with an unusual four-sided floral and leafy branch border, centering a very busy reserve filled with baskets of flowers, stylized trees and plants, birds, rampant lions, butterflies, rabbits, and stags.  A large house or possibly a school is in the center, flanked by topiary-like trees and two little temples.

The verse is the famous “Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand.”  Visible on the back of the sampler is the brick red originally used for the building which has faded on the front.

The sampler is in very good condition apart from some fading, four small holes above the verse, and two small horizontal splits to the linen ground (illustrated).

Silk on linen, the gilded frame could be original.  The sampler itself measures 24″ x 25″, with the frame 29″ x 30″.  Because of the size and weight of the sampler, the shipping charge will be $150.
