Description

SARAH WADSWORTH 1838
A New York sampler stitched on linen with fine wool and silk threads featuring Adam and Eve under the Tree of Life, surrounded by flower baskets, trees, squirrels, dogs, birds, a bee hive, and crowned lions.
Sarah Wadsworth was born in Erie, New York, in 1825 to John and Nancy Wadsworth. In 1842 she married Henry Lamb and together they had four children.
Her penmanship exercises are sewn together and still attached to the back of the sampler.  She died on May 20, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
An extensive packet of genealogical information is included with the sampler, which is in very good condition and mounted on its original wood stretcher bars, but it is not framed.
The sampler measures 16″ x 16″.
