DORCAS FISHER 1834
Branchville, New Jersey

An American sampler stitched with silk on linen with an outermost border of blue hearts surrounding a widely undulating leafy border, centering a verse and a large pot of flowers executed in cross and queen stitches.

Dorcas Fisher was born in 1820 to Samuel and Elizabeth Fisher, and married Oliver Perry Gillson around 1842. They had five children. Dorcas died 2 March 1871 in New York and is buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery at Sparrowbush.

The sampler is unframed. It has some water staining at the top and the bottom, along with some losses to the linen in the corners and overall fading, otherwise the needlework is in very good condition. 16″ x 17″,
