ALLISON TURNBULL Her Work Done in the 11th Year of her age 1770

Beautifully stitched English sampler with a four sided floral pansy and carnation border centering tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments and a pious verse with satin stitches columns on either side and trumpeting angels in the upper left and right corners above the columns. Stitches used include cross, petit point, counted satin, split, and freehand stem.

Excellent color, some darkening of the linen and a few holes along the lower border, otherwise in very good to excellent condition. Scattered small holes appear in the right and left center borders and at the top of the tablet. The frame is probably mid 20th century.

The sampler itself measures 12-1/4″ x 15″, with the frame it is 14″ x 16-1/4″
