Description

Sampler made in northern England with a three-sided floral border, comprising thirteen lines of alphabet neatly cross stitched in several different styles.  The sampler is in excellent condition, framed in a 19th-century rosewood cushion moulded frame.
Preliminary research suggests that Mary Wagstaff was born in Huyton, Lancashire, in 1809.  She possibly died in Warrington under the Warrington Charity Authority in Cheshire in 1853.
The sampler measures 8-1/4″ x 13″, with the frame 12-1/2″ x 16-1/2″.  This will be available as a chart from The Scarlet Letter later in 2023.
