Description
GRAPH ONLY
Symbol of strength, steadfastness, courage and hope, the lion appears in heraldry throughout the centuries. Our design derives from a seventeenth century canvaswork “slip,” doubtless inspired by a drawing from an ornamental bestiary such as Konrad von Gesner’s Historia Animalium published in 1560. The usual technique used was tent stitch over one thread using silk on a linen canvas (petit point). Our design was worked over one thread on a 30 count linen, yielding a finished piece measuring approximately four inches square. Since only cross stitch is required, the project is recommended for any skill level.
