ELIZABETH SMITH 1815

An English sampler very finely stitched on linen with silk floss, featuring a traditional verse above a horizontal band of arcaded flowers, with Adam and Eve and the tree of life below, centered by beautifully shaded flowering baskets.

The unframed sampler has a four-sided strawberry border.  It is in very good/excellent condition, with a few very minor holes to the linen in the lower right corner.  The color is brilliant. To the best of my knowledge, this sampler has never been reproduced. The provenance states that it descended through a Bedford, NY family, although its origin is clearly English. 14″ x 10-1/2″
