ANN GARDINER circa 1840

Probably Scottish sampler executed with wool and silk threads on homespun linen with a four sided floral border centering eight alphabets, with a pious verse below. Stitches used are cross, eyelet, double running and petit point. The initials in the lower third have been illuminated in the Scottish tradition.

There are some thread losses throughout, but the overall color and condition remain very good. The frame is perhaps mid 20th century. 8″ x 21″
