SUSANNA HOW WHITCHURCH OCTOBER 5, 1822
This lovely little sampler comes from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has been cleaned and conserved by their staff. Stitches used are cross and counted satin. The verse can be mostly read:
Your —- like sand
Provide——– before too late
Nor leave to an uncertain day
The interests of an endless state
They who can call the lord their friend
may look toward death without dismay
and only they can meet their end
Calm as the summer’s closing day
The condition is poor, but it has been stabilized, and the color is excellent. 12″ x 15″.
