Sarah Hyam

Very fine English sampler featuring a two-story stone house fronted by a lawn and a circular drive, flanked by motifs of angels riding puffy clouds, birds, trees, flowers, dogs, lions, and peacocks. A sweet, tiny petit point alphabet flanks the four-line verse:

The loss of gold is much
The loss of health is more
The loss of Christ is such a loss
As no man can restore

Stitches used in the sampler are primarily cross and petit point. It has been professionally cleaned and conserved to exacting standards and is framed in a period maple frame. Excellent color and condition. Sampler alone 13″ x 13″, with frame 17″ x 17″.
