Sarah Hayward 1798

This antique is SOLD.

This is a beautiful late eighteenth century English sampler featuring horizontal rows of alphabets and numerals above a verse:

Labour not only to know what you ought, but to Practice it; and be always ready to make others better By your good advice, at least, be very careful not to Make them worse by your bad Example.

Wise words!

The color is excellent. Stitches used are cross, eyelet, and counted satin. The sampler appears to have been conservation mounted in an antique period frame which could be original. 12-1/2″ x 13-1/2″ sampler alone, 16-1/2″ x 15-1/2″ with the frame.
