Mrs. I.E. 1742
Origin and date: Possibly Scottish 1742
Source: Private Collection
Linen count and finished size: 30-count, hand-dyed, 9″x20″
Stitches: The top part is worked in cross stitch. The designs on the lower part are worked in back, double running, queen, and eyelet.
The original of this reproduction came from either the north of England, or possibly Scotland. The date occurs on the fourth line, and Mrs. IE and the mysterious initials SH appear on the eighth line. Characteristically, reds and greens are found on many Scottish samplers of this period.
