HINERITH BUCKLE 1726

English George I band sampler stitched with silk on linen featuring bands of decorative geometric stitching above two rows of alphabets, crowns and numerals, signed: THIS SAMPPLAR WAS MADE BY HINERITH BUCKLE IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD GOD ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX AND IN THE TWELVTH YEAR OF MY/TIME CUTS DOWN ALL BOTH GREAT AND SMALL.

She has possibly been identified as Henrietta Buckle who was born around 1714 in Hampshire, England, to parents John Buckle (ca.1670-1742) and Ann Wolfe (b.1671). Henrietta married James Wild (1715-1785) of Lyndhurst on May 13, 1738, and the couple had at least two children.

Very good color and condition, slight toning to the edges, a few very small holes, and in a 20th century frame. The sampler measures 7-1/2″ x 21-1/2″, with the frame it measures 10-1/2″ x 25″. Stitches used are cross, eyelet, montenegrin cross and counted satin.
