Description

Who would love this world
or prize whats in it
that gives and takes and chops
and changes every minute

This brilliant English traditional band sampler comes from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum. Drawing on traditional sampler motifs of the 17th century, Grace Catlin brings a new shape (slightly wider, shorter) and openness to her work, heralding the development later in the century of more pictorial and verse-oriented samplers. Here are pattern bands using traditional strawberry, fig, daisy, acorn, carnation, honeysuckle, grape, and diaper motifs.
