Mary Randal 1803
MARY RANDAL
Aged 9 years 1803
This English sampler features an unusual and amusing hunting scene with a hunter on horseback pursuing a single stag with a pack of ten spotted hounds (beagles?) A four sided floral border centers five tiers of design including floral motifs and trees.
The verse is:
Give me O Lord thy early Grace
Not let my Soul Complain
That the Young Morning of my Days
Has all Been Spent in Vain
The condition and color is very good. It appears to have been remounted over linen in a 20th century frame. Stitches used are cross, petit point and backstitch. The sampler itself measures 17″ x 20″, with the frame 19″ x 22″.
