Maren Olson 1838
Frederikshald, Norway
This beautiful and unusual Norwegian sampler is noteworthy for the exquisitely stitched floral wreath at the center, and alphabets and numerals forming the four sided border. The style of lettering is also unique, looking more like cursive than actual cross stitched letters. The outermost border has been finely hem stitched. It was finished on the 4th of October in Frederikshald, a town in southeastern Norway near the border with Sweden. The sampler is in pristine condition with only some fading. The last photo shows the back side of the sampler with the unfaded colors. The sampler is not framed. It measures 14-1/2″ x 16″. Stitches used include cross, petit point, eyelet, and counted satin.
