Isabella Baldwin 1827
English sampler with a four sided meandering border, with an inner satin stitch sawtooth border, featuring a three storey turreted mansion house, flanked by a windmill and an architectural folly. Cherubs, butterflies, stars and crowns (GR IV, George the 4th) are stitched above the house which is fronted by an ornamental fence and gate. There are numerous spot motifs including insects, potted plants, birds, dogs and trees. Stitched use are cross stitch, counted satin, stem and petit point. The verse:
Great God and since thy piercing eye
My inmost heart can see
Teach me from every sin to fly
And turn that heart to thee
Good overall color and condition, some small holes, later frame, 14-1/2″ x 12-1/2″.
