Hannah Turner 1859

This antique is SOLD.

Born in 1841, Hannah Turner made this sampler at the unusually grand age of eighteen years. It features a grandiose version of Solomon’s Temple surrounded by flying angels, birds perched in trees, pots of flowers, stags, dogs, and two human figures, with a four sided floral border. It is stitched in cross stitch, wool on linen. The color is excellent, and the general condition is very good except for damage at the top around her surname (see detailed photo), and some wool loss in one of the border flowers in the upper right. It measures 36″ x 28-1/2″ (including the frame) and is large enough to serve as a fireplace screen.
