Christian Nimmo circa 1847

This antique is SOLD. Purchase sampler kit, graph or finished model (if available) for yourself.

Possibly Scottish (Nimmo is a Scottish surname), this sampler is stitched on linen with wool and silk in cross, petit point, counted satin and freehand stem stitches. The color and condition are very good, with the background linen slightly darkened. Three pots of flowers are stitched at the top above a scene with a large grey tabby cat hunkering beside a church, with a stylized shepherd and sheep in a meadow beneath a tree. Family initials (presumably) are stitched in four places. The date is barely legible beneath her surname, and could be either 1847 or 1849. I believe it is framed in its original birdseye maple frame. 7-1/2″ x 11″ sampler, 11″ x 15″ with frame.
