Ann Hawkins 1826

This antique is SOLD.

A very finely stitched English sampler in excellent condition, minor fading, few losses. It features a four sided honeysuckle border with a horizontal pattern band of crowns, a depiction of “Solomon’s Temple” flanked by a stag and a doe, flying birds and windmills. The attribution in the lower register is flanked by beautifully executed swaying sunflowers. The shaded areas beneath some of the horizontal bands resemble bargello, but are actually executed in cross stitch. Stitches used in the sampler include cross stitch over two, petit point and counted satin. It has been mounted in a modern frame. The sampler itself measures 18″ x 15-1/2″, with the frame it is 21-1/2″ x 19-1/2″
