ANN BRAZIER 1804

An English pictorial sampler worked with silk on linen featuring a large depiction of pink Adam and Eve alongside the tree of life with a freehand stem stitched serpent.  They stand on a green lawn with sheep, a rabbit, dogs, and a bird.  The four-sided floral border has satin stitched rosebuds at each corner.

The verse is a reference to early 19th-century events:

Ships colonies and Commerce the haughty tyrants cry’d, Thou shalt have ne then Nelson said he sealed his words and died

The sampler retains brilliant color. There are several small and scattered holes. The frame is later, but likely 19th century.

11-3/8″ x 14-1/2″, with the frame 14-7/8″ x 18-1/4″
