Jane Moore 1820
British pictorial needlework sampler stitched with silk on a linen ground, with two rows of alphabets and numerals at the top followed by a pictorial band with potted plants, trees, and dogs. There is a four-line verse surrounded by stylized satin stitched flowers above a brick house flanked by elaborate trees, a large tiger, and a stag. Below this is a mythological beast, a Hippocampus, nestled between two exotic birds. The sampler is signed” Perform’d by Jane Moore in … the 12th year of her age (18?)” (date possibly removed). Fair to good overall condition, some scattered small holes, losses to edges with fraying especially to lower right corner. 12-1/2″ x 17″ sight, with frame 15″ x 19-1/2″.
