BARBRA SCOTT circa 1785

Scottish sampler stitched with wool and silk on linen, featuring a large illuminated alphabet, family initials, as well as spot motifs of peacocks, a rooster and a hen, and potted shrubs. Stitches used include cross and double running, in a palette primarily red and green.

The color and condition are very good, with some darkening of the linen. There is some genealogy pencilled on the back of the frame but it is mostly illegible. The older frame is in fair condition. The sampler itself measures 7-1/2″ x 17-1/4″, with the frame 9-1/2″ x 19-1/2″.
