News from the Scarlet Letter

at Smoke Ham Farm
October 2013

The Scarlet Letter is having a book sale! The sale starts today. Note that sale items are in very short supply and once sold will not be back ordered. You can look at the list of books to find out what is on sale. Discounts are up to 80%. The discounted price will not show in the shopping cart, but the sale items in your order will be discounted when the order is processed. If your order, after discounts, is $75 or more, I will include a free book from the overstocks.

If you would like to see the newest catalogue supplement number 34, it is available here.  If you would like a print copy to read in the bathtub, please send me an email with your address and I'll post it to you. All of the information in the supplement is also on the website.

Four new reproductions are in the works, and two should be available before the end of November. You'll find pictures and details below about them, Ann Thompson and Eliza Tagg. Pre-orders for Thompson and Tagg are being accepted, with no shipping charges within the USA.

Witney Antiques will have a new exhibition this autumn, and the accompanying softbound catalogue titled Historic Samplers: Whats In A Name? People and Places will be available in mid October.
I've welcomed two new members of the animal family to the farm: Eden, an Alpine milking goat (shown above), and Lluther, a registered and semi retired  llama whose sole responsibility in the future will be to herd the other animals into the barn at twilight and greet friends with a very amiable and soft kiss.
If anyone can identify the beautiful autumn blooming flowers in this picture taken outside the UPS entry to the shop, that person will win a free copy of the new Witney Antiques catalogue.

Peace and Love,
Marsha

Eliza Tagg - New Reproduction

Norfolk (England) samplers are a unique species, characterized by either a stepped lozenge cartouche, as in this example, an elaborate floral border (usually embroidered freehand but not in Eliza Tagg's sampler), and a horizontal row of joined octagons filled with various floral or animal motifs. The sampler kit will be available in November 2013.

Ann Thompson - New Reproduction

Oval cross stitched samplers are very unusual and this is an outstanding example. Ann Thompson was nine years old when she completed this sampler in 1803. The kit will be available in November 2013. The original Ann Thompson antique sampler is also for sale and can be viewed on the website.
