Description

This sampler was finished on the 21st of July in 1712. It was created with bold primary colors suggestive of Scottish embroideries, in silk and wool threads on a linen ground, using cross, eyelet, rice, queen, herringbone and double running stitches. The inscriptions are:

Remember thy creator in the days of thy youth. Anne Comberbeatch
Love the Lord and he will be a tender father unto thee

Possibly Anne Comberbeatch was Elizabeth Eaton’s teacher. Very good color and condition, but with some losses to the wool stitches in a few areas 8-1/2″ x 18″, with frame 11″ x 20-1/2″
