ANN WIMP |
|
This is an interesting
crossover-type needlework design, a sampler in its individual
elements of design, but a silkwork picture in its overall shape
and presentation. Ann has tried (and quite effectively) to create
naturalistic vegetative forms with cross stitch which, on silkwork
pictures, are rendered in satin stitch. Originally framed within
verre eglomise (reverse painted glass, black with gold highlights)
in a gilded gesso frame, the piece is also of historic interest
in that the verse actually pertains to the scene depicted above.
The piece is stitched entirely in petit point cross stitch (over
one thread of linen). There is an acrostic verse in the lower
right quadrant of the sampler. |
