ELIZABETH SMITH 1811

This sampler could be English, or Scottish, and features a bold, four-sided meandering carnation border, surrounding a central reserve with stylized forms of Adam and Eve, the serpent, and the Tree of Life. Spot motifs include potted flowers, trees, lions, stags and birds. The original sampler retained its original brilliant color at the front, which has been reproduced as closely as possible. Stitches used are cross, counted satin, and rice. On 30 count linen, the reproduction will measure exactly the same as the original.
