ANN CARTER
This elegant sampler was donated to The State Historical Society of Wisconsin in 1954 by the great-granddaughter of Ann Carter, Helen C. Carter of Madison. Although the sampler is not dated, it was probably worked in the late 1820's or early 1830's. Ann Carter came to America in 1850 and settled in Lancaster, Wisconsin. The original sampler measures 6"x8" and was worked with silk threads. The colors are still brilliant, and the stitches in the tightly woven ground are extremely fine. The reproduction reflects the original in every possible way.
