This Pennsylvania
sampler has characteristics of other Lehigh Valley samplers (see
Betty Ring's Girlhood
Embroidery, pp.
450-455, including the note for Fig. 509), particularly in the
evergreen trees flanking the house, with their distinct horizontal
"foliage", and the brown trunks extending up into the
greenery. Originally stitched on homespun linen, the 30 count
evenweave linen supplied with our reproduction is the same color
as the original. Stitches used are cross, eyelet, and straight. |
