QUEEN STITCHED PANEL
CIRCA
1740
The original panel from which this piece was reproduced was acquired together with the bargello panel. Both were in matching Hogarth style period frames with identical wooden back board mounts, and were obviously made (or at least framed) as a pair around 1740. This one is worked entirely in Queen stitch. The finished panel could serve as a cushion, a book cover, a mirror or fire screen backing, a purse, or to upholster a small stool.
