MARY HASLEHURST 1776
This sampler is probably American. Its unusual tablet-like format suggests it might have been a prototype for a pocketbook. It is worked with fairly coarse silk threads on a loosely woven homespun linen. The inscription is:

Wealth hath Wing
S and riches fly aw
Ay but godS a rock
That never will dec
Ay mary haslehur
St her work In the
Year of our lord
1776

In shades of rush, copper, blue, green, black, cream and ivory
