ANN LAWLE
circa 1650
This band sampler begins with a cut and drawn thread pattern of birds derived from Frederico de Vinciolo's 1587 pattern book, followed by a counted thread satin stitch whitework section. The man and woman flanking the tree have detached buttonhole stitch collars and cuffs that are three dimensional, and they are dressed in the height of cavalier fashion.
