pattern is adapted from a 12th century stained-glass window, "Samson and the
Doors of Gaza" (Stuttgart, Wurtembergischen Landesmuseum). The alphabet is
the 8th century Irish half-uncial. The design size is 282 stitches

This
charted design is adapted from an illumination, "Brunwart von Augheim", in
the early 14th century manuscript known as the Codex Manesse (Heidelberg,

MUSICAL ANGELS
The
text with music is adapted from a 15th century enameled terra cotta by
Andrea della Robbia (Florence, Museo Nazionale). The two angels are adapted
from a 14th century manuscript illumination (London, British Library, ROyal
MS 2B. vii, fol. 168b). The church is adapted from a 13th century model of
St. Nicaise carved on a tombstone in Reims Cathedral, by its architect,
Huges Libergier. The wyvern is adapted from a 14th century manuscript
illumination (Florence, Biblioteca Nazionale). The four different borders
are adapted from 12th century Irish motifs. The design size is 203

BATTLE
The
dog jousting on a rabbit is adapted from an illumination in a 14th century
breviary (London, British Museum, Yates Thompson MS 8, fol. 294). The posing
bunny is adapted from a 13th/14th century woven altar cloth in Kloster
Isenhagen, Lower Saxony. The rabbit with a crossbow and the dead rabbit are
adapted from a 14th century illumination from the Metz Pontifical
(Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum, MS 298, fol. 41). The design size is 363

VICTORIOUS GRIFFIN
The
griffin is adapted from a 15th century, northern Italian illumination, "Antiquitates",
by Giovanni Marcanova (Princeton University Library, Garrett MS). The border
is adapted from a 15th century illumination, "The Annunciation," in the
Beaufort Hours (London, British Library, MS Royal 2 A.XVIII, fol. 23v). The
design size is 179 stitches wide by 135 stitches tall.
